Norris Dominates Dutch GP as Verstappen's Home Race Ends in First Lap Crash

Lando Norris put on a masterclass at Zandvoort, taking a commanding victory at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix. The McLaren driver's triumph marks another strong showing for the Woking outfit, though it came with some drama further down the grid. Norris had to work for it though, initially losing the lead to Kimi Antonelli before a brilliant strategy call in the second half of the race saw him reclaim the top spot and drive away to victory.

The podium was rounded out by Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in second and third respectively. It was a solid day for the Silver Arrows pair, though you could sense some frustration for Antonelli about not quite having the pace to match Norris when it mattered. Russell's third place keeps him in the championship fight, and Mercedes will be pleased with both drivers scoring big points at this crucial stage of the season.

The big talking point though was Max Verstappen's retirement on the opening lap. Racing at home in front of his Dutch fans, Verstappen lost control into the final corner and crashed out, ending what would've been his final home race in early retirement. It's a bitter way for the Red Bull driver to bow out of Zandvoort, especially after showing promise in the lead-up to the race.

Lewis Hamilton finished fourth for Ferrari, just ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc in fifth. Oscar Piastri brought home sixth for McLaren, completing a decent weekend for the team despite not having the outright pace Norris showed. Liam Lawson managed seventh in the Red Bull, picking up useful points as he continues to impress in his driving seat.

The race saw several retirements including Alex Albon, Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, Ollie Bearman, and Verstappen himself. It was a day when reliability and avoiding mistakes made all the difference, and Norris executed both to perfection. The Brit's victory pushes McLaren into contention as the season builds toward its conclusion, with plenty still to play for in the championship battle.
