Hamilton Fuming Over Ferrari Strategy Calls as Leclerc Ignores Team Orders at Dutch GP

Lewis Hamilton had some choice words for Ferrari during the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix, and it wasn't pretty. The seven-time champion finished fourth at Zandvoort, but the result doesn't tell the whole story of what went down over the radio. Hamilton was frustrated with his team's strategic decisions throughout the race, and things came to a head when his teammate Charles Leclerc refused to follow pit stop instructions.

The drama kicked off around lap 42 when Hamilton started pressuring Leclerc hard. With fresher tyres and noticeably better pace, Hamilton told his engineer Carlo Santi he was lapping much quicker than the Monegasque. Ferrari then asked Leclerc to pit, but the 28-year-old ignored the call and stayed out on track. A visibly annoyed Hamilton wasn't holding back: 'We are just losing time,' he radioed to the team. When Leclerc finally did pit two laps later after a second order, he suffered a slow 3.4 second stop and dropped to sixth. Hamilton's sarcasm came flooding through the radio: 'Great way of wasting time guys, good job.'

Things didn't improve as the race went on. With around 20 laps remaining, Ferrari started discussing another pit stop strategy for Hamilton. They wanted to switch him to fresh medium tyres, but Hamilton was skeptical based on how badly those tyres had performed for Leclerc earlier in the race. 'It didn't look great on Charles. It's slower,' Hamilton said, adding a pointed 'But you guys have got the data, so figure it out. Please.' His frustration only grew when the team kept him out longer than he expected, leading to his most exasperated message: 'Are you using me as a guinea pig or what?'

A late Virtual Safety Car actually worked against Hamilton's chances, allowing George Russell to stay ahead of him in third place. What could have been a podium finish slipped away due to the timing and Ferrari's strategic calls. Hamilton's fourth place finish keeps him in the championship fight, but his night at Zandvoort showed real tension between the driver and his new team on a night when better pit work could have made all the difference.
