Verstappen Dominates Singapore Sprint and Qualifying as Red Bull's Hadjar Battles Reliability

Max Verstappen put on a masterclass at Singapore, taking both the Sprint victory and pole position for the Grand Prix on Friday. The Red Bull driver started his Sprint well, though he got passed by George Russell at the start before regaining the lead when his rival crashed out. From there, Verstappen controlled the race with zero pressure from behind, securing his first-ever Sprint win at Marina Bay. He then backed it up in Qualifying with a sensational pole position lap of 1 minute 31.373 seconds, notching up his 50th career pole in the process.

It wasn't all smooth sailing for Red Bull though. Isack Hadjar endured a nightmare weekend, forced to retire from the Sprint with a power unit issue early on and then crashing out spectacularly in Qualifying. The Frenchman couldn't get the car through the gears, attempted to salvage a lap time but ultimately couldn't get it to work, finishing 22nd with no time set in Q1. Team Principal Laurent Mekies acknowledged Hadjar's frustration while praising the garage crew for their incredible efforts to get the car repaired in time between sessions.

Verstappen himself was thrilled with how the car felt all weekend. He described the setup being in a good window from start to finish and emphasized that getting a clean start on Sunday would be crucial for maintaining track position around the tight Marina Bay circuit. The Red Bull driver noted that qualifying had always been the priority at Singapore given how difficult overtaking is, and he managed to build momentum nicely to seal it when it mattered most. He reckoned everything had gone right so far and was targeting a complete sweep with victory in the Grand Prix.

Ferrari brought competitive pace as well, with Lewis Hamilton putting in an inspired Sprint performance. Hamilton rose from sixth on the grid to third at the start and then muscled his way up to second, running right on Verstappen's tail for much of the race. His teammate Charles Leclerc managed third but struggled with tyre life. Hamilton carried that momentum into Qualifying and looked strong through the early stages, though some car adjustments before Q3 seemed to affect his performance when it mattered most.
