Ralf Schumacher Slams Norris After Singapore Sprint Disaster: Not on Verstappen's Level

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri's McLaren teamwork went spectacularly wrong at the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint, and former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher wasn't holding back his criticism. The reigning world champion Norris went for an ambitious move on his teammate at Turn 5 in tricky wet conditions, but instead of pulling it off cleanly, he caught Piastri's rear-right wheel and sent both cars into a spin. Piastri couldn't recover and was forced to retire, while Norris limped home with just a single championship point.

Schumacher was particularly unimpressed with Norris' attempted overtake, especially considering the McLaren driver has already had some questionable moments this season. The German pointed out that Norris' crash in Singapore proved he simply isn't at Max Verstappen's level yet, despite the Brit's confidence in his own abilities. Schumacher highlighted Norris' embarrassing moment in Malaysia just days earlier, suggesting a pattern of risky decisions that could cost McLaren dearly as the championship reaches its critical phase.

What made Schumacher's comments particularly pointed was his comparison to Verstappen. The Red Bull driver has managed to avoid this sort of incident, showing the kind of racecraft and judgement you'd expect from a multiple world champion. Schumacher made it clear that claiming to be on par with or better than Verstappen while making these sorts of mistakes doesn't exactly strengthen that argument.

McLaren boss Andrea Stella was equally furious about the whole situation, though he stopped short of publicly naming who he blamed. The Italian told Sky Sports F1 that two McLarens making contact and essentially taking each other out of contention was completely unacceptable. Stella emphasized that the team's interests must come before any individual driver's ego, and promised to have a serious conversation with both Norris and Piastri behind closed doors about what happened.

The incident was particularly costly for McLaren at a crucial time in the season. With both cars battling for points and the team fighting for championship positions, losing what could have been a solid haul from the Sprint was a bitter pill to swallow. It's a timely reminder that in Formula 1, sometimes the biggest enemy to a team's success isn't the competition on track, but mistakes made from within.
