Norris Takes Back-to-Back Wins at Zandvoort as McLaren's Rob Marshall Design Dominates

Lando Norris has made it two wins in a row, claiming a dominant victory at the 2026 Dutch GP at Zandvoort in what he's calling one of his better performances. Despite losing the lead off the line, the McLaren driver absolutely controlled the second half of the race, eventually defeating Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes by over 11 seconds. It's a huge statement from Norris and his McLaren team, especially given how competitive things have been all season long.

The race was proper tactical stuff around the middle stint. Norris was sitting third when he made his move on Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari at Turn 1 on lap 54, then immediately swooped past Antonelli at Turn 11. That move proved decisive, as Antonelli admitted he couldn't compete once Norris found his rhythm. Meanwhile, Hamilton benefited from an Esteban Ocon retirement that triggered a virtual safety car, allowing him to jump ahead of Antonelli and take fourth by the finish, just ahead of Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.
The real controversy came at the very start when Max Verstappen made a rare mistake in the damp conditions. The Red Bull driver touched the curb at the banked Tarzan corner, completely lost it, and crashed hard into the outside barrier in front of his home crowd. It was brutal timing for the Dutch fans and a massive disappointment for Verstappen's season momentum. Gabriel Bortoleto also had a massive moment at the same corner with a 360-degree spin, but somehow kept it out of the barriers and limped on.

George Russell held on for third place on old hard tires, finishing ahead of Hamilton and keeping Mercedes right in the fight despite McLaren clearly finding a massive step forward. Oscar Piastri was a distant sixth in the second McLaren, with the points now showing Antonelli has extended his championship lead to 59 points over Russell and Hamilton, who are tied for second with 183 points each.

Norris was cautiously optimistic after the race, saying there's still plenty of work to do and plenty of races left. But with back-to-back wins and a car that's clearly rapid, he's definitely starting to look like a genuine title contender. Madrid and Malaysia coming up as big unknowns could shake things up, but right now McLaren's momentum is genuinely scary for the rest of the grid.
