Dutch GP 2026 Schedule Locked In: Zandvoort Says Goodbye After 74 Years

Right, so here's the thing, F1 fans. The Dutch Grand Prix is returning to Zandvoort this weekend after the summer break, but there's a bittersweet twist. This is shaping up to be the final edition of the race at the iconic circuit. After more than seven decades of hosting the sport's elite, the sea of orange will gather one last time to support their own Max Verstappen at this special venue.

The timing couldn't be more dramatic for the championship battle either. Lando Norris absolutely dominated at the Hungarian Grand Prix just before the break, claiming his first victory as the reigning world champion. Now the question is whether McLaren can keep that momentum rolling at Zandvoort, or if Mercedes will bounce back after a surprisingly quiet showing in Budapest. Kimi Antonelli currently leads the drivers' championship with 219 points, but Mercedes as a team has been absolutely dominant all season long. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, sits second in points and is out to prove Ferrari can challenge for the title.

The schedule's pretty straightforward this year. Free Practice 1 kicks off Friday August 21 at 12:15, followed by Sprint Qualifying later that afternoon at 16:10. Saturday brings the Sprint Race at 11:40 in the morning, then regular Qualifications at 15:40. The main event, the Grand Prix itself, goes down Sunday August 23 at 15:00. It's a full weekend packed with action on one of motorsport's most historic circuits.

Zandvoort itself has some serious credentials. The track's been running since 1952, sits at 4.259 kilometers long, and the race distance runs 306.587 kilometers over 72 laps. Lewis Hamilton holds the current lap record from 2021 with a 1:11.097. With this being the final Dutch Grand Prix here, expect the atmosphere to be absolutely electric. Max Verstappen will be feeling the pressure at his home race while Norris and the rest of the grid chase that checkered flag.
