2027 Grid Almost Set: Only One Driver Facing the Axe
1lessidiot
The 2027 F1 grid is basically done and dusted, with ten of the eleven teams expected to roll out identical line-ups from this year. According to F1TV's Lawrence Barretto, there's been surprisingly little movement in the driver market, which is pretty wild when you think about the usual silly season chaos. The only real question mark hanging over the grid has been Max Verstappen's future at Red Bull, given he's got an exit clause in his deal thanks to the team's disappointing campaign. Verstappen explored options at McLaren, but they're keeping Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri together, so it looks like he might be staying put by default.

Down the order, Racing Bulls are keeping faith with Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad despite the hype around Formula 2 leader Nikola Tsolov. Alpine's Franco Colapinto appears to have done enough to stay alongside Pierre Gasly after showing improved form, squashing speculation about his future. Audi are sticking with Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg despite links to Carlos Sainz, while Sainz himself looks set to extend with Williams alongside Alex Albon. Even Aston Martin isn't shifting, with Fernando Alonso staying in some capacity at the team, whether that's racing or in a different role.

The real casualty looks to be Esteban Ocon at Haas, who's been absolutely schooled by teammate Oliver Bearman in head-to-head battles. We're talking 20-7 in classified sessions, which is a brutal scoreline for someone with way more experience. Haas boss Ayao Komatsu expected better from the former Alpine driver, but instead Ocon's gone backwards from last season. He's blaming inconsistent car parts for his struggles, and even Bearman admits it hasn't always been fair, but Haas have plenty of exciting talent knocking on the door if they decide to make a change.

If Ocon doesn't turn it around before the season ends, Ferrari junior Rafael Camara, who's chasing the Formula 2 title, is the favourite to take his seat. With so many other drivers locked in and happy, the Haas cockpit is the only real drama left for 2027. It's a tough spot for Ocon, who's got to produce something special to save his F1 future.
