Mercedes on Fire at Monza as Russell and Antonelli Dominate FP2

Mercedes has absolutely lit up the second practice session at Monza, with both George Russell and Kimi Antonelli trading fastest laps and showing serious pace on soft tyres. Russell eventually grabbed the headline time with a 1:22.559, but it's been incredibly tight at the top, with Antonelli just 0.141 seconds adrift in third. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton sitting pretty for Ferrari in second and fifth respectively keep the Scuderia within striking distance, though Mercedes' early dominance is clearly a statement of intent.

What's particularly impressive is how consistent the Mercedes package has been across both practice sessions. After Leclerc set the tone in FP1, Russell and Antonelli have flipped the script in FP2, showing they've got serious race pace up their sleeves. The gap between the top contenders remains razor thin though. Lando Norris for McLaren is fourth, just 0.384 back, proving that the pecking order at Monza is still very much up for grabs. Racing Bulls have turned some heads too, with Yuki Tsunoda and Arvid Lindblad running ahead of the Red Bulls.

Max Verstappen's clearly not a happy camper in that Red Bull, sitting sixth and half a second adrift of Russell. The balance issues that have plagued Red Bull lately seem to be haunting them again here, and there's real concern that they can't get the car dialed in properly for the Dutchman. With Antonelli leading the championship by 59 points, there's massive pressure on Russell to capitalize at Monza, and early signs suggest Mercedes might just have the firepower to make something special happen this weekend.
