Lando Norris capitalised on the chaos to take first place after his pit stop, leaving Piastri seething. The Australian didn't hold back, calling the incident one of the stupidest things he'd ever seen on a racetrack.

What made Piastri's reaction stand out wasn't just the anger itself, but the fact that he actually showed it. Danner told Motorsport-Magazin that this is completely out of character for the McLaren star. Normally Piastri stays composed, keeps his emotions in check, and doesn't go firing off hot takes in public. So when he does blow up, you know something genuinely stupid just happened. Danner reckoned that's precisely what makes Piastri's reaction so telling. If the normally cool, collected Australian is swearing about it, the incident must have been seriously bad.

Sainz's excuses didn't help his case either. The Williams driver claimed he hadn't spotted Piastri, even though he'd been checking his mirrors and was too focused battling Fernando Alonso to notice a car trying to lap him. He even complained that something was wrong with the FIA's blue flag system. But Danner wasn't having it. He pointed out that blue flags have been part of motor racing for decades and they're meant to be visible. When you're being lapped, you need to know about it. The fact that Sainz wanted to blame the system rather than taking responsibility clearly annoyed Danner.

Piastri's frustration was compounded by the outcome. He lost first place thanks to Sainz's error, and the incident dropped him back far enough that he eventually retired from the race with a gearbox issue. Meanwhile, Norris took the win. Other voices in the paddock, including Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard, backed Piastri's assessment. Schumacher even reckoned Sainz deserved another penalty on top of the five-second one he received, calling it a complete no-go to hit the race leader while being lapped. The stewards got it partly right, but Sainz needed to own his mistake instead of defending himself.
