Monza Driver Ratings: Antonelli Gets Perfect 10 for Historic Home Victory

RacingNews365 has handed out their driver ratings from the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, and there's only one name that deserves a perfect 10. Kimi Antonelli delivered an absolutely stunning performance at his home track, clawing his way from 19th on the grid after a Mercedes engine penalty to cross the line first in front of the Scuderia faithful. The 20-year-old executed 26 overtakes throughout the race, and his decisive move came at Ascari on lap 50 when he swept past team-mate George Russell, whose hard tyres had completely gone off. The first Italian to win at Monza since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966, and Antonelli even grabbed the fastest lap to cap off an unforgettable weekend.

Pierre Gasly gets a 9.5 for putting in one of the most dramatic performances of the season. His maiden pole position came 191 grands prix into his career, with a brilliant 1:21.786 in Q3 that edged George Russell by just six hundredths. It was Alpine's first pole since Fernando Alonso with Renault back in 2009, an absolutely massive moment for the team. Sunday told a completely different story though, as midfield machinery couldn't hang with the sharp end, and Gasly faded to seventh as the laps counted down. Still, that Saturday qualifying lap was pure gold.

Max Verstappen picked up an 8.5 for a typically gutsy drive to the podium. The Red Bull driver qualified fifth, briefly led the race around lap 12 using overtake mode to dive past Russell, and despite dealing with a rear-axle issue, he managed to claw back into third place by the chequered flag. Extracting a podium from the RB22 at Monza is no small thing, especially against the pace of Mercedes and Ferrari.

George Russell earned an 8 after looking like the fastest driver all weekend, but strategy made a victim of him. He controlled most of the 53-lap race from second place before that crucial Virtual Safety Car pit stop call, where Mercedes brought Antonelli in for fresh mediums while Russell stayed out on dead hard tyres. By lap 50, he had nothing left for his young teammate, and what should've been a victory slipped away through no real driving fault of his own.

Franco Colapinto impressed with an 8 despite a tough afternoon. The Argentine reached Q3 and qualified seventh before that devastating lap six lock-up knocked him from fourth down to 16th. To his credit, Colapinto showed real character mounting a recovery drive to ninth and two championship points, even if the error will sting. At the bottom of the ratings, Valtteri Bottas managed just a 5 as Cadillac simply lacked the pace to compete at Monza, whilst Charles Leclerc scored a 4.5 after a huge lap two crash at Parabolica ended his race immediately in a reported 60G impact.
