Leclerc Takes Cheeky Dig at Perez After Singapore Frustration

Charles Leclerc didn't hold back his frustration during the closing stages of the Singapore Grand Prix, firing a sarcastic jab at Sergio Perez over the radio. The Ferrari driver was chasing down Max Verstappen in the final laps when he got held up by the Cadillac driver in the second sector, costing him precious time in his battle for victory at Marina Bay.

Perez received five blue flags before finally moving aside on the fifth warning, forcing Leclerc to lose around six tenths of a second compared to Verstappen. Though the gap was already substantial with limited laps remaining, the Monegasque made his displeasure known with a pointed comment. Over team radio, Leclerc sarcastically asked, "Is Perez still driving for Red Bull?" The dig was particularly sharp given that Perez now races for Cadillac after spending years as Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull. While Perez's hold-up wasn't intentional, it still handed his former outfit a small advantage at a crucial moment.

The incident highlighted just how tight the racing was at the front, though it wasn't the only talking point from Singapore. Ferrari also came under scrutiny for its handling of Lewis Hamilton's strategy during the race. The team wanted to pit both drivers when the Virtual Safety Car came out on lap 39 following Lance Stroll's retirement. Leclerc pitted as instructed and switched to fresh soft tyres, but Hamilton missed the pit entry and stayed out instead.

That decision ended up backfiring spectacularly. Hamilton completed a grueling 44-lap stint on the soft compound after originally fitting them on lap 19, and his pace dropped significantly towards the finish. Leclerc, Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri all managed to get past him as a result. Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur defended the team's call after the race, insisting the instruction to pit had been clearly communicated and that Hamilton had accepted responsibility for the error. Vasseur explained the team was concerned the tyres wouldn't last to the end.
