Jolyon Palmer Reckons Lewis Hamilton Suckered Lando Norris at Singapore
1lessidiot
Lando Norris had an absolute shocker at the Singapore Grand Prix, and it wasn't just about his Sprint crash with Oscar Piastri. The McLaren driver's weekend went from bad to worse when he finished fourth in the main race, and according to former driver Jolyon Palmer, he got played by Lewis Hamilton in a key moment. While Hamilton's strategy gamble ultimately backfired for Mercedes, his defensive move at Turn 1 on Lap 54 pulled Norris into a mistake that cost him a podium finish.

Here's what went down. Hamilton decided to ignore Ferrari's playbook and go for a one-stop strategy instead of pitting under the virtual safety car, sticking with heavily worn C5 soft tyres. This left the door open for Norris to have a genuine go at a podium, and the McLaren driver made his move at the first corner. But here's the thing, Palmer reckons Hamilton basically baited Norris into out-braking himself at the apex. Both drivers went too deep, neither held the line, and that's when Andrea Kimi Antonelli swooped in for the kill, grabbing third place and opening up a massive gap.

Palmer told Motorsport News that Norris 'got suckered into braking late' by Hamilton's aggressive defending. It wasn't a disaster on Hamilton's part either, mind you, the Ferrari driver just made a complete mess of the corner himself. But with Norris carrying all that dirt from his medium tyres, he couldn't stick the landing, and Antonelli punished him for it. Third place went to Mercedes instead of McLaren, and Norris ended up fifth, just ahead of Piastri who managed P5.

All of this came after Norris already had people furious with him for the Sprint incident. He'd dumped Piastri into the wall at Turn 5 trying to nick fourth place on the final lap, and McLaren boss Zak Brown was reportedly madder than he'd ever been with the reigning champion. Palmer summed it up perfectly, calling it a continuation of Norris' 'clumsy weekends,' and while most agreed the Sprint was a racing incident, it was a risky move for bugger all reward. Singapore just went from bad to worse for the papaya driver.
