Hamilton Flies Fastest in Austin FP3 as Ferrari Stays Dominant, Leclerc Loses Time to Track Limits

Lewis Hamilton put Ferrari on top once again at the United States Grand Prix, lighting up the timing screens in final practice with a lightning quick 1:34.893 to edge out the competition. The Mercedes driver was rapid all afternoon, ending up nearly two tenths clear of Charles Leclerc in third place, with only Max Verstappen managing to squeeze between them. Hamilton's performance caps off what's been a seriously impressive weekend for the Prancing Horse outfit so far.

The story of FP3 though was Charles Leclerc's frustration with track limits. The Ferrari driver actually set a quicker lap than his teammate but saw it deleted for running wide, dropping him down the order and leaving him visibly frustrated on the radio. Leclerc wasn't alone in his misery either, with Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli among several drivers who had their best efforts wiped off the board for the same infraction. The track limits saga is becoming a real headache at COTA.

Max Verstappen continues to show impressive consistency this weekend, rounding out the top three ahead of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes cars. The Red Bull star wasn't entirely happy with his machine though, complaining about downshift issues that prevented him from getting the best out of the car. Despite that grumble, he's been competitive all day and should be a threat come qualifying.

The rest of the field spread out behind, with Oscar Piastri, Nico Hulkenberg, and Pierre Gasly rounding out the top ten. It's been a solid day for Ferrari heading into the crucial qualifying session, though whether they can maintain this form when it really matters remains to be seen. Track conditions are shaping up to be a massive factor this weekend, especially with drivers constantly walking the line between quick and illegal.
