Hamilton Completes Ferrari's Flawless Practice Sweep at Austin

Lewis Hamilton capped off a dominant day for Ferrari by topping Practice 3 at the Circuit of the Americas, clocking a 1m34.893s to finish what the Scuderia started on Friday. Charles Leclerc had been absolutely rapid all day, quickest in both morning sessions, but a track-limits violation cost him an even better time in the afternoon. Still, with Hamilton leading the session and Leclerc third, Ferrari's package looks seriously quick heading into qualifying.

Max Verstappen finished second in his Red Bull, just 0.168 seconds adrift of Hamilton, though it was a frustrating session for the Dutchman. He looked hungry late on and tried to push for a quicker lap, but the rear stepped out dramatically and he had to abandon the effort. Leclerc ended up third, 0.234 seconds back from his teammate, missing out on what would've been an even stronger showing if that deleted lap had stuck.

Mercedes locked out the next two positions with Kimi Antonelli fourth and George Russell fifth. Antonelli was impressively quick, though he too fell victim to track limits and lost what might've been a faster lap. The Italian was 0.185 seconds clear of Russell, suggesting there's more in the tank when he strings together a clean run. McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris ended sixth and eighth respectively, with neither driver able to nail a complete lap.

Conditions at COTA proved tricky throughout the session with inconsistent grip levels affecting everyone. Lock-ups and oversteer plagued several drivers, while understeer was also a constant nuisance. Track limits continued to be a minefield, with multiple drivers losing lap times. The stewards are now reviewing several incidents, including an unsafe pit-lane release between Nico Hülkenberg and Lance Stroll, Hamilton closing on Gabriel Bortoleto, and Isack Hadjar pushing Alex Albon off track. Despite the challenging environment, Ferrari's pace stands out as the real deal coming into the crucial qualifying session.
