Alpine are making waves in the 2027 driver market, and it looks like Franco Colapinto has done enough to secure his future with the team. The Argentine had a rough 2025 season that left boss Flavio Briatore considering his options, but he's absolutely turned things around this year. Colapinto has been consistently competitive, sitting 12th in the standings at the summer break and boasting the longest streak without a DNF on the entire grid. His performances have caught the attention of everyone at Alpine, and insiders reckon he's the overwhelming favourite to keep the seat alongside Pierre Gasly, who's locked in until at least 2028.

Briatore had clearly been looking elsewhere though. Fernando Alonso has been linked with a shock return to Alpine for a third stint, while Carlos Sainz has also attracted interest from the French team. Sainz is another name in the mix, though Williams are apparently willing to move heaven and earth to keep him around. What makes this interesting is that Briatore actually tried to sign Sainz for 2025, so there's clear history there. But despite the big names circling, it seems the Alpine boss isn't in a rush to make any dramatic moves.

What's changed for Colapinto is his relationship with Briatore and his overall trajectory. At the start of 2026, it looked genuinely bleak for the lad. Briatore was reportedly keen to replace him with Paul Aron, frustrated by crashes and pace issues. Fast forward to now though, and they seem to have built real chemistry. Colapinto's strong performances have earned him genuine respect, and he's proven he deserves another shot. If he continues performing like he has been, that Alpine seat for 2027 is his to lose.
