Christian Horner Walks Away with $150m After Red Bull Exit

Christian Horner has cashed in massively after parting ways with Red Bull. The legendary team principal pocketed a staggering $150.85 million during the 2025 season, with the bulk of that coming from a hefty severance package. After two decades building Red Bull into an F1 powerhouse, Horner was initially stripped of his administrative duties following the British Grand Prix before formally departing in September.

The numbers are seriously eye-watering when you break them down. Horner earned $17.83 million in base salary from Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technologies, with $5.87 million and $11.92 million respectively. But the real money came from severance payments totalling $133 million. Red Bull Racing handed him $44.33 million while Red Bull Technologies chipped in $88.67 million. That's before you factor in pension payments that pushed the total package over $150 million.

This makes Horner one of the best-paid figures in Formula 1 history, and it's even more than McLaren boss Zak Brown's 2025 package which was revealed to be over $110 million. Horner's success at Red Bull speaks for itself, eight Drivers' championships and seven Constructors' titles during his time in charge. For now though, the 52-year-old is sitting on the sidelines while the paddock buzzes with speculation about his next move.

There's been plenty of talk linking Horner to several top teams. Ferrari is supposedly interested, though Horner's willingness to join them without an equity stake would be an exception to his usual demands. Alpine has also been mentioned, particularly given bidders trying to acquire Otro Capital's 24 percent stake. There's even been chatter about him potentially reuniting with Adrian Newey at Aston Martin, where Lawrence Stroll has shown willingness to offer equity stakes. A potential 12th team project with Chinese manufacturer BYD has been floated too, though that's not considered a serious prospect at the moment.
