Austin 2026 F1 Schedule Confirmed: Kimi Antonelli Could Seal It This Weekend

Formula 1's heading back to the Circuit of the Americas this October, and it's shaping up to be absolutely massive for the championship. Kimi Antonelli is sitting pretty at the top of the standings with 340 points, and depending on how things play out this weekend, the Italian could actually wrap up the title at round 18. Even if his Mercedes teammates George Russell and Lewis Hamilton both finish in the top 10, Antonelli might have enough to clinch the whole thing. That's the kind of pressure cooker Austin serves up.

The timing couldn't be more interesting either. Max Verstappen and Red Bull are back in the conversation after Verstappen's maiden victory in Singapore last time out, so expect them to come firing at the Circuit of the Americas. Charles Leclerc's still lurking in fifth place with Ferrari, while the McLaren boys, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, need to string together some solid performances if they're going to make a late charge. Austin's always been a wild card, and this year it could decide the whole championship.

The schedule's pretty standard for F1 at COTA. Free practice kicks off Friday evening at 19:15, with the second session at 22:45. Saturday brings FP3 at 19:15 and qualifying at 22:40, with the main race coming Sunday at 21:00. It's an evening slot, which honestly works brilliantly for viewers across time zones. The circuit itself has been hosting F1 since 2012, sitting at 5.513 kilometres with 56 laps making up the full race distance.

Another big talking point this year is F1 Academy finally getting its moment at an American Grand Prix. The women's racing series will run three races across the weekend, with French drivers Lisa Billard and Jade Jacquet looking to score their first podium finishes in the category. Saturday's got back-to-back races at 00:45 and 21:40, then Sunday wraps up the Austin round at 16:35. It's a proper statement for women in motorsport, and honestly, it's overdue.

Max Verstappen holds the absolute circuit lap record at 1:32.143 from last year, while Charles Leclerc's got the race lap record from 2019 at 1:36.169. The track's known for producing brilliant racing and surprising results, which makes this championship decider even juicier. Whether Antonelli can seal the deal or if someone spoils the party remains to be seen, but Austin's about to deliver some seriously tense Formula 1.
