Kimi Antonelli just made history at Monza by claiming his seventh Formula 1 victory, and honestly, it's the kind of result that proves why everyone's been talking about this kid all year. What makes it even crazier is how he got there. Starting from way down the grid after a penalty, Antonelli used the red flag restart and a second crack at the race to fight his way back into contention and ultimately take the win. That's the sort of performance that leaves you shaking your head at how dominant he's been this season.

With this win, Antonelli has now matched George Russell's career tally of seven victories. Russell acknowledged the magnitude of his teammate's achievement after the race, saying he knew what was coming when he saw Antonelli climbing through the field early on. The Mercedes driver secured a solid result himself but couldn't quite find the pace to challenge his teammate, particularly struggling with the hard tire strategy late in the race. The internal battle at Mercedes has clearly swung in Antonelli's favor this year.

The scary part for the rest of the grid is that Antonelli's record-chasing is just getting started. A win at the next Grand Prix in Madrid would put him level with Daniel Ricciardo, Jacky Ickx, and Denny Hulme on eight victories. After that, he's eyeing the nine-win mark currently held by three active drivers: Valtteri Bottas, Charles Leclerc, and Oscar Piastri. Remember, Antonelli only started winning back in Shanghai this year, so he's doing all this in a single season.

To put things in perspective, Max Verstappen's 2023 season record of 19 wins still stands untouched, and that's no small feat. But there's a difference between chasing records and building something truly special, and Antonelli's already got himself in championship contention with the season still to play. If the kid can keep this pace up, he's looking at clinching his first world title, which would cap off an absolutely mental year for the young Italian.
