The Mercedes driver claimed his eighth victory of the season, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull and Lando Norris in the McLaren. The result extends Antonelli's lead to a hefty 81 points with the season still very much alive, suggesting the Italian is on course for a dominant campaign.

The race itself was shaped heavily by strategy and a crucial Virtual Safety Car that played right into Mercedes' hands. Norris had started from pole position and held the lead through the opening laps, though Antonelli was pressing hard and cutting corners in his attempts to get past. The VSC bunched up the field and allowed Mercedes to execute a brilliant pit stop strategy. While Norris' stop went pear shaped and dropped him behind both Antonelli and Verstappen, the Italian inherited the net lead at exactly the right moment. Despite some steering concerns, Antonelli controlled the race from there, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc eventually pitting after 48 laps having gambled on the Safety Car never arriving.

The chaotic opening laps had already delivered plenty of drama at the new venue. Lewis Hamilton qualified on pole before being outpaced by Antonelli, with Norris then stealing top spot with what he reckoned was one of the best qualifying laps of his career. Verstappen claimed third on the grid. Come race day, Hamilton took an aggressive approach with softs but unfortunately retired early due to brake problems. George Russell made it home in fifth for Mercedes, while the rest of the points positions went to a mixed bunch of drivers including Liam Lawson, Franco Colapinto, Oscar Piastri, and others from across the grid.

Several drivers hit trouble on what proved to be a tricky weekend at the new Madring circuit. Carlos Sainz failed to complete his home race, while Sergio Perez faced a suspected water system issue. Lance Stroll also suffered brake troubles like Hamilton. The venue itself caught plenty of teams out during free practice, with crashes plaguing the sessions before qualifying, though most drivers recovered in time for the main event. Bearman even had to start from the pit lane after sustaining heavy damage in FP3.
