When McLaren finally called him in a lap later, they botched the stop spectacularly, dropping him down to fifth and handing Antonelli a golden opportunity. Charles Leclerc inherited the lead and decided to stretch his stint on the hard tyres, but it wasn't enough to hold back the charging pack behind him.

Verstappen held onto second place ahead of Norris in third, with the championship leader now sitting pretty with a commanding lead in the standings.
