Russell Takes Sprint Pole at Zandvoort as Ferrari and McLaren Battle for Dutch GP Glory

George Russell has grabbed Sprint pole position at Zandvoort ahead of what's shaping up to be a cracking Dutch Grand Prix weekend. The Mercedes driver dipped into the 1m11s to secure top spot in a fiercely competitive qualifying session where everyone was separated by barely anything. It's the kind of tight racing we've been seeing all season, and it's got everyone believing they've got a shot at glory come Sunday.

Behind Russell, it's a proper mixed bag at the front. Lando Norris in the McLaren qualified second, with Charles Leclerc putting his Ferrari third on the grid. Oscar Piastri rounded out the top four for McLaren, keeping the team's title hopes alive with a solid qualifying performance. Max Verstappen couldn't quite find the pace in his Red Bull and will line up sixth, which is a bit of a surprise given how much this is his home race.

Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari is really paying dividends, with the seven-time world champion securing seventh on the Sprint grid. The Prancing Horse clearly brought some serious upgrades to Zandvoort, and Hamilton's been right in the mix all weekend. Other notable names rounding out the top ten include Pierre Gasly for Alpine, Gabriel Bortoleto in the Audi, and Arvid Lindblad for Racing Bulls.

What's really interesting is how tight the field has become in 2026. There's barely a tenth between most of the grid, which means the Sprint race itself could be absolutely mental. Ferrari's been bringing constant upgrades to attack this season, and having both Hamilton and Leclerc firing on all cylinders suggests they're genuinely believing they can make moves on both Mercedes and McLaren. The championship fight is getting spicy, and Zandvoort looks set to deliver another cracking weekend.
