Pierre Gasly wasn't far behind in the impressiveness stakes, earning serious marks for his qualifying masterclass the day before race day. The Alpine driver and his team nailed their flying lap in Q3 to grab his maiden F1 pole position, using that Mercedes power unit they've got this season to full effect. Sure, he couldn't hold onto first during the actual race and eventually settled for P7, but the way he executed that qualifying run was proper textbook stuff. The fact he managed his weekend so well at a track where he claimed his only victory six years ago shows Gasly's still got that edge.

Max Verstappen proved Red Bull's still a force despite lacking the straight-line grunt of the Mercedes cars. The Dutchman climbed from P5 up to the lead in the early stages, running the show for a few laps before both Russell and Antonelli got ahead of him. Verstappen didn't throw in the towel though, made his own VSC pit stop like Antonelli, and charged back to third place for his third podium in the last four races. That's consistent performance that keeps Red Bull's championship hopes alive.

Oscar Piastri bounced back nicely from a rough time at Zandvoort, grabbing third on the grid at Monza before a three-place penalty for a blocking move in Q2 shuffled him down. He made solid progress through the field and dueled with Lewis Hamilton before focusing on his McLaren teammate Lando Norris down the stretch. Meanwhile, Norris had a weekend that felt like winning and losing all at once. Back-to-back wins earlier and suddenly he couldn't get it done, qualifying only P8 and spending the race playing catch-up. He did nick past Piastri on the final lap for fourth, but it showed this championship's still wide open.

Arvid Lindblad quietly did his thing again, finishing eighth in that Racing Bulls car and chalking up more crucial points in the teams' standings battle. The rookie's been remarkably consistent, scoring points in seven of his last eight races. That kind of steady performance, combined with some good fortune when Charles Leclerc crashed and Franco Colapinto had his off-track moment, keeps Racing Bulls ahead of Alpine where it counts.
