Lando Norris has secured pole position for Formula 1's maiden Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid's brand new Madring circuit. The McLaren driver pulled off a brilliant final effort in Q3 to snatch the top spot, claiming his third pole of the 2026 season and setting up Sunday's race perfectly for his team's championship push.

Championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli will start alongside Norris on the front row, meaning Mercedes lost out to McLaren at the business end of qualifying. The Italian in his Mercedes-AMG Petronas car lines up for the front row, though it's another qualifying defeat in a string of them for the team. Max Verstappen in the Oracle Red Bull Racing machine qualified third, with Lewis Hamilton fourth after an ultimately disappointing effort in his Scuderia Ferrari HP. The seven-time world champion had held provisional pole early in Q3 but ended up dropping back as his rivals improved.

Charles Leclerc completes the top five in the other Ferrari, with George Russell rounding out row three for Mercedes. Oscar Piastri takes seventh in his McLaren, while Liam Lawson qualified eighth in the other Red Bull. Franco Colapinto in the BWT Alpine F1 Team car makes the top ten, as does Arvid Lindblad in the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls machine.

The grid saw some disruption at the back when Ollie Bearman couldn't participate in qualifying after picking up damage in a FP3 crash with his TGR Haas F1 Team. That'll force him to start from the back row alongside Lance Stroll's Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team, with Stroll also struggling after a suspected water pressure leak prevented him from setting a lap time.
