As we barrel toward the final stretch of the season, the 2027 driver market remains wide open. While Max Verstappen locked down his Red Bull future through 2030 earlier this year, nine of the grid's 22 drivers are still without confirmed contracts for next season. The silly season never really kicked off after Verstappen's deal was announced, leaving plenty of question marks hanging over multiple teams.

The Red Bull family's got some sorting out to do. Isack Hadjar has been properly impressive in his first season with the senior team, regularly showing he's got the pace to trouble Verstappen and scoring his first podium at Monaco. The Frenchman looks nailed on to stay put. Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls are both performing well enough that keeping them around seems likely, though Nikola Tsolov is waiting in the wings as the next hot prospect. If Red Bull wants stability, which they seem to, the current lineup should remain intact.

Over at Audi, Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg are expected to be retained, with junior talent Freddie Slater earmarked for future consideration. Haas looks set to keep Oliver Bearman in place, with his Ferrari promotion potentially coming in 2028. Lance Stroll at Aston Martin has the family connection working in his favor, with his dad Lawrence still owning the team. That leaves five drivers in genuine limbo.

The big concern is Esteban Ocon at Haas. The Frenchman has been outpaced by Bearman this season and the team's clearly shopping for a younger replacement. Rafael Camara, Jack Doohan, and Leonardo Fornaroli have all been mentioned as possible successors. After nearly a decade in F1 and winning a grand prix, Ocon's looking at a potential exit from the sport. Fernando Alonso represents a different situation entirely. The Spanish legend's got enough clout to pick his own adventure, so whether Aston Martin can convince him to stick around for 2027 remains up in the air.

The uncertainty's unusual for this stage of the season, but it's not panic stations just yet. Most of these drivers are expected to find homes before silly season kicks into high gear. Still, for some, the next few months could define the rest of their F1 careers.
