Nico Rosberg reckons he's spotted Ferrari's biggest issue, and it's not the car itself. Speaking after the Spanish Grand Prix, the 2016 world champion said the Scuderia keeps shooting themselves in the foot with what he calls 'messy weekends.' On the Sky Sports F1 Show podcast, Rosberg was pretty blunt about what's dragging the team down. It's not pace. It's everything else.

The problem child, according to Rosberg, is strategy and communication. He reckons this weakness has stuck around for ages and it's still biting them hard. Just look at what happened in Madrid. Lewis Hamilton's brakes gave up on him early on, which was brutal, but Charles Leclerc had to nurse a long opening stint on the hard tyres and finished fourth. It's the kind of weekend that shows a team fighting itself rather than fighting the competition.

Here's where it gets interesting though. Rosberg pointed out that Ferrari's actual car speed is genuinely competitive. He reckon if Hamilton's brakes hadn't failed, he'd have been comfortably second in the race, finishing behind only Max Verstappen. That tells you everything. The pace is there. The machinery is there. But something keeps going wrong come race weekend, whether it's pit wall decisions or how they're running the operation.

The bigger picture is rough for Hamilton and Ferrari right now. After his Madrid retirement, he's now 101 points behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli, and the 41-year-old has basically admitted the 2026 title isn't happening. He's gracious about it though, saying Mercedes and Antonelli have done a phenomenal job. For Ferrari though, Rosberg's critique stings because it suggests they've got the hardware but keep tripping over the software side of things. That's the kind of problem that's fixable, but it's got to happen soon.
