Max Verstappen Set to Announce His F1 Future at Zandvoort
1lessidiot
Right, so it looks like we're finally getting some clarity on Max Verstappen's future sooner rather than later. According to former F1 driver Robert Doornbos, who was chatting on The Pit Talk podcast during the Zandvoort race weekend, the four-time world champion is expected to make an announcement about his Red Bull future at the same venue. For months now, speculation has been swirling about whether Verstappen might activate his exit clause and look elsewhere, especially with Red Bull struggling to match Mercedes and Ferrari's performance this season.

The whole situation's been pretty mad, honestly. Verstappen hasn't even grabbed a win in 2026 yet, which is massively unusual for him, and any realistic title challenge feels like a distant dream at this point. Even though he's locked into a contract through 2028, he's got the option to leave early if he really wants out. That's put everyone on edge wondering if he'll make a move to Mercedes, McLaren, or stick it out with the team where he's won all four of his championships.

Doornbos is convinced that Verstappen's staying put though, and honestly, his reasoning makes sense. He reckons the other seats aren't particularly appealing anymore. Mercedes are invested in developing Kimi Antonelli as their next superstar, and while George Russell has been struggling to keep pace, bringing in Verstappen alongside him would be a nightmare for the team's harmony. McLaren are also sorted with their current lineup and aren't pushing for Max like they might've in the past.

So the Dutchman's pretty much out of real alternatives. Doornbos expects Zandvoort to be the place where Verstappen confirms he's sticking with Red Bull through 2028. It'd be huge for the team to get that announcement locked in early, giving everyone clarity and letting Red Bull focus completely on getting competitive again for next season. Whether Verstappen truly believes Red Bull can deliver him another title is another question entirely, but at least we should finally get some answers soon.
