Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton got a sneaky preview of Formula 1's brand new Madrid circuit back in July, and the Ferrari driver's just shared his initial impressions. Ferrari ran their filming day at the Madring, completing the full 200 kilometres allowed under FIA regulations on the SF-26, giving the Scuderia a proper head start on everyone else. Leclerc reckoned the track was still very much a construction site when he tested it, with dirt everywhere and work happening all around, but he's already convinced it's going to be brilliant.

The layout is genuinely mental. Twenty-two corners packed into 5.4 kilometres, and that's before you get to the main attraction, La Monumental. This banked right-hander stretches 547 metres with a 24 percent gradient, the maximum the FIA allows. Drivers will pull around 4G for roughly six seconds through the thing. Leclerc was crystal clear that this corner's going to define the whole weekend, especially in qualifying. He reckons it'll take real bravery to nail it properly and could absolutely become one of F1's most iconic turns once the grandstands are finished.

Leclerc clearly loves city tracks, and Madrid's delivering exactly what he wants. He compared La Monumental to Zandvoort's banked final corner but stressed they're fundamentally different beasts. The Zandvoort corner's flat out, or nearly there, while Madrid's demanding proper commitment and precision. The Monégasque driver admitted the dust during his test run kept him from finding the limit, but once the circuit's properly finished and the dust settles, things will get properly spicy. He's confident this layout will suit his driving style because it'll demand everything from him, which is exactly the kind of challenge he thrives on.

So Spain's getting something genuinely special come September. A proper street circuit with character, elevation changes, tunnels, and a turn that'll separate the truly brave from the rest. Leclerc's tipped off everyone that this is going to be unmissable, and if his feedback's anything to go by, drivers everywhere are going to have their work cut out for them figuring out Madrid.
