The McLaren driver will line up first on the grid for Sunday's race, though it's not the championship leader Kimi Antonelli who'll be starting alongside him. Instead, Norris managed to edge out the Mercedes driver to snatch the top spot.

Lewis Hamilton finished just outside the top two in what turned out to be a frustrating session for the Ferrari driver. The British seven-time world champion pointed the finger at his car's tires for his disappointing qualifying performance, insisting he gave absolutely everything to secure the best possible grid position. Despite his efforts, Hamilton couldn't find the pace needed to challenge Norris at the front.

Rounding out the top five are Max Verstappen in third and Charles Leclerc in fourth, both still harbouring championship ambitions heading into Sunday's race. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz endured a rough Saturday evening when he was found to have impeded Valtteri Bottas during his final qualifying run. The Williams driver, racing in his home city of Spain, saw his grid penalty drop him from a competitive position all the way back to 20th on the grid. Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez, and Bottas all leapfrogged the Spaniard as a result of the incident, making for a disappointing turn of events for what should've been a special weekend.
