But his real anger wasn't directed at his Aston Martin package or his own performance. Instead, Alonso went after the technical rules that he believes have completely gutted driver skill from qualifying and racing.

During his post-qualifying media duties, Alonso doubled down on previous complaints about the 2026 battery-heavy regulations by making a bold claim about Michael Clayton, Aston Martin's press officer. He suggested that Clayton could potentially drive through the demanding La Monumental corner faster than Max Verstappen simply because of how the MGU-K battery deployment works on modern cars. According to Alonso, drivers are basically flat out through the turn without battery power, then the system kicks in suddenly, meaning bravery and raw skill count for almost nothing anymore.

The Spaniard's point was straightforward and damning. He highlighted how corners like La Monumental should be about who has the most skill and courage to push hardest. Instead, with current regulations, battery power management dictates pace more than driver ability. Alonso reckons a non-driver with perfect battery deployment timing could beat the reigning champion, and that's simply not how Formula 1 should work.

Alonso also took shots at F1 leadership, saying he's been in regular contact with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Stefano Domenicali to push for changes. He made clear that the sport can't wait until 2031 when the next major regulation overhaul comes around. The current generation of machinery is, in his view, fundamentally broken when it comes to rewarding true driver talent, and something needs to change sooner rather than later.
