Charles Leclerc's about to become a dad, and while that's brilliant news for the Monegasque driver and his wife Alexandra Saint Mleux, Ferrari's had to think practically about what happens if the baby decides to arrive during a Grand Prix weekend. The timing of births can be pretty unpredictable, so there's always that outside chance the little one could show up when the circus is in town.

Here's the thing though, Ferrari doesn't reckon Charles will actually miss a race because of it. The driver himself has made it clear he's got no plans to sit out a Grand Prix, and the team reckons the odds of having to find a replacement are pretty slim. Still, you've got to have a backup plan in F1, and that's where things get interesting for the Scuderia's driver academy.

If something unexpected does happen and Leclerc can't make it to the paddock, Dino Beganovic is Ferrari's chosen replacement. The Swedish driver with Bosnian roots is currently competing in Formula 2 and is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. He's had some free practice running as a rookie but hasn't actually started a Grand Prix yet. Come next season, he's getting promoted to Ferrari's test and reserve driver role, so stepping in this year would be a pretty big deal for his career.

What's interesting is that this decision also tells us something else. Oliver Bearman, who's currently contracted to Ferrari but racing for Haas, won't be getting the call if Leclerc needs a stand in. The Briton's become quite the impressive prospect, but Ferrari wants to keep him with the American team. Antonio Giovinazzi, listed as a Ferrari reserve, also misses out on this particular opportunity. For now though, it's just a precaution, and all signs point to Charles being trackside for every race while becoming a first time dad.
