Martin Brundle reckons we've got ourselves a proper title scrap on our hands now. The legendary commentator pinpointed Lando Norris' victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix last month as the moment that completely changed the complexion of this year's championship fight. After 10 races without a win, Norris finally got back on the podium top step as the reigning champion, and Brundle believes that could signal a genuine shift in momentum for McLaren.

When the season kicked off in Australia back in March, it looked like Mercedes had absolutely nailed the new regulations. Kimi Antonelli took that opening round win, and the Silver Arrows didn't put a foot wrong for the next five races. Meanwhile, Lando's McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri had a nightmare start, crashing out before the race even finished in Melbourne. Things only got worse for the Woking squad as they suffered a double DNS in China and back-to-back retirements in Canada and Monaco. Ferrari also found their rhythm, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell sitting pretty in the points while Norris slipped further behind.

But Hungary changed everything. With 291 points still available and the previously cancelled Bahrain Grand Prix now rescheduled for October, there's genuinely still plenty of racing left. Brundle wrote after Norris' win that if McLaren have made genuine progress with their upgrades, this championship is far from decided. He's absolutely right too, because the standings show Mercedes leading with Antonelli's 219 points, but Ferrari aren't far behind with Lewis Hamilton on 169 and George Russell on 160. Norris is fifth with 128 points, so McLaren have got work to do.

The real kicker is that Norris and McLaren now have a proper chance to claw back ground. That rescheduled Bahrain race in Malaysia gives them another 25-point opportunity, which could prove crucial as the fight heats up after the summer break. With the top four teams bunched tightly together and still nearly a full season's worth of points on the table, this could genuinely be one of the most competitive championship fights we've seen in years.
