2027 F1 Grid Takes Shape: Max's New Deal and Ferrari's Locked-In Pairing

The 2027 Formula 1 driver market is finally getting some clarity, and there's been some massive news that settles one of the sport's biggest questions. Max Verstappen has extended his Red Bull contract all the way through 2030, putting an end to months of speculation about his future. The Dutch superstar had been one of the most valuable pieces on the driver market board, so his decision to stay put has massive ripple effects across the grid. This also makes a potential Ferrari move significantly less likely, which changes how several teams are planning ahead.

Several squads have already locked in their complete 2027 line-ups, and it's actually more than you might expect at this point in the season. Ferrari's got Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton staying put, giving the Maranello outfit continuity with two of the sport's biggest names. McLaren, the current world champions, will keep Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri together. Williams has secured both Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz for the next year. Even Cadillac, the new team on the block, has already confirmed Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas will be their 2027 pairing.

But it's not all sorted yet. Mercedes still hasn't formally confirmed anything with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, even though both drivers' contracts expire at the end of 2026. Antonelli's currently leading the championship, so you'd reckon he'll stay, but nothing's been made official. Over at Red Bull's sister team Racing Bulls, there's still uncertainty about the line-up depending on how Isack Hadjar performs and whether Arvid Lindblad impresses as a rookie.

Aston Martin's situation remains murky because nobody knows if Fernando Alonso wants to keep racing or hang up his helmet. Until the Spanish veteran makes that call, the team can't properly plan its driver strategy. Haas and Audi also have questions to answer about their current drivers, and Alpine still has some decisions to make. So while the big teams have mostly figured things out, there's still plenty of drama playing out behind the scenes as the grid comes together for next season.
