Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur isn't having any excuses after his team's stunning collapse in United States Grand Prix qualifying. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton had dominated every single practice session at Austin, with Hamilton even posting his fastest FP3 in over two years. The Scuderia looked unstoppable heading into Saturday, but when it mattered most, both drivers crumbled spectacularly. Leclerc managed fourth on the grid while Hamilton scraped fifth, just 0.044 seconds behind his teammate. Worse still, they were nowhere near pole-sitter Kimi Antonelli and sat behind Max Verstappen as well.

When asked about the sudden pace evaporation, Vasseur flat-out rejected the suggestion that wind conditions were to blame. He called the excuse 'bulls**t' and made it clear that Ferrari simply didn't execute when it counted. The team principal acknowledged that Q3 proved difficult for everyone, but he wasn't interested in deflecting responsibility. Instead, Vasseur emphasized that Ferrari had the potential to at least grab front-row positions and should have delivered. It's a blunt assessment of a day that went from hero to zero in the blink of an eye.

Vasseur did explain the razor-thin margins that define qualifying in these tricky conditions. A couple of hundredths of a second, a gust of wind, or being even a metre off on braking could flip a driver from second place to sixth or seventh. In this game, the difference between a hero and zero can be impossibly small. But Vasseur's point stood firm, that Ferrari needed to be sharper and more precise when it mattered, regardless of external factors. He acknowledged the frustration but stressed staying calm about what the team's actual potential is versus what they actually achieved on the day.

Looking ahead to the race, Vasseur warned that degradation will play a huge role and things could look very different come Sunday. But there's no getting around the fact that Ferrari left serious points on the table by not capitalizing on their dominant practice form. For a team that looked untouchable just 24 hours earlier, finishing fourth and fifth was a bitter pill to swallow in Austin.
