Lewis Hamilton's got some familiar faces joining him at Ferrari, and it's all about bringing that winning formula to Maranello. Jasper van Schaick, a Dutch engineer who spent nearly eight years at Mercedes, has just joined the Scuderia as a chassis vehicle system specialist. This reunion brings together people who've worked together through some seriously successful years, and it's exactly the kind of move that could help Ferrari challenge for the championship.

Van Schaick spent almost eight years at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains after joining back in 2018, where he worked as a mechanical engineer during some of the team's absolute glory years. He was part of the squad that helped Hamilton claim world titles in 2018, 2019, and 2020, and played a crucial role in Mercedes' continued dominance throughout that period. By 2024, he'd stepped up to concept engineer, working on developing new power unit concepts and helping chassis teams integrate the powertrain into the overall car design.

The engineer initially left Mercedes in May to return to the Netherlands after spending eleven years in the UK, but Ferrari came calling with an offer he couldn't refuse. Van Schaick announced the news on LinkedIn, saying that the chance to work toward winning races and championships again was too good to pass up. He wrote about how grateful he was to join Ferrari and that he's ready to push for a world championship with the team.

This appointment is a smart move for Ferrari, as it adds serious expertise in mechanical systems design and power unit integration. Having someone with van Schaick's experience working alongside Hamilton could prove invaluable as the team tries to close the gap to their rivals. It's another example of Ferrari building a stronger technical operation around their seven-time world champion driver, and fans will be hoping it translates into better results on track sooner rather than later.
