Leclerc Tops Austin FP2 as Ferrari and Mercedes Lock Out COTA Practice

Charles Leclerc has stamped his authority on Friday's running at the Circuit of the Americas, setting the pace in the second free practice session for the United States Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver clocked a time of 1 minute 35.291 seconds to lead the field, putting his red machinery firmly at the front of the pack as teams prepare for a crucial weekend in Texas.

Kimi Antonelli put in an impressive performance for Mercedes, just 0.042 seconds behind Leclerc to secure second spot on the timesheets. Max Verstappen in the Red Bull wasn't far back in third, trailing by 0.189 seconds, but it's the Ferrari and Mercedes combination that's looking ominously quick heading into the rest of the weekend. Lewis Hamilton, now piloting the other Ferrari, rounded out the top four with a time 0.615 seconds adrift of his teammate.

The midfield action was fierce, with George Russell in the second Mercedes slot fifth fastest ahead of a gaggle of competitive machinery. Liam Lawson got Racing Bulls into the conversation in sixth, followed by McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, suggesting it's shaping up to be another three-way battle among the frontrunners come Sunday. Further back, Ollie Bearman's Haas made a solid showing in tenth, while Gabriel Bortoleto brought Audi into the mix in eleventh.
