Lewis Hamilton wasted no time getting back on track after his Spanish Grand Prix disaster. The seven-time world champion was out testing for Ferrari at Imola on Tuesday morning, less than 48 hours after retiring from the race at the new Madring circuit. It's the kind of quick turnaround that shows Ferrari are keen to move past what was a pretty rough weekend.

The 41-year-old British driver had reported brake issues early in the 57-lap Spanish race while sitting third behind Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli. He quickly dropped down the order before being forced to retire, marking his first DNF since Brazil 2025. What makes it worse is that it ended his streak of finishing every single lap so far in 2026, and more importantly, it means he failed to score points for the first time this season.

The timing couldn't be much worse for Hamilton's title hopes either. Back at Silverstone in July, he was only 32 points down on championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Now, just five races later, that gap has blown out to 101 points. Ferrari's recent form has been absolutely brutal, and they need answers fast.

At Imola on Tuesday, Hamilton got behind the wheel of the Ferrari SF-26 as part of Pirelli's tyre development program for the 2027 season. His team-mate Charles Leclerc took over during the afternoon session. Racing Bulls also participated in the test, with them back on track on Wednesday. It's a Pirelli-mandated program, but for Ferrari it's a chance to fine-tune things and hopefully salvage some momentum from what's been a disappointing run.

There's also an interesting subplot here. Imola could potentially host the final race of the 2026 season if the planned Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix get cancelled due to Middle East tensions. Nothing's confirmed yet, but the circuit is being heavily considered as a replacement. For now though, both Middle Eastern races remain on the calendar, though the situation is definitely fluid.
